About Our Founder

Shri. B. Nagi Reddi, (Founder, Vijaya Medical & Educational Trust)

From being the recipient of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his invaluable services to the Indian film industry, Shri.B.Nagi Reddi was truly a multifaceted individual. He established Vijaya Vauhini Studios which was a premier destination for film production in India. He also established one of India’s largest printing presses called Prasad Process which brought out children’s magazines like “Chandamama” that was loved by millions of readers even today. Shri.B.Nagi Reddi was a dynamic individual with an attitude to always achieve the very best.

From his humble beginnings in a small village in Andhra Pradesh, he achieved success in every sphere of his life. Despite his numerous accolades, his true desire was to provide “quality medical service at affordable rates to the society”.

His vision led to the establishment of Vijaya Hospital in 1972 which was one of the first multi- speciality hospitals in Chennai. With initial bed strength of 30, the hospital has now grown over 750 beds under the banner of Vijaya Medical and Educational Trust (VMET). The Trust encompasses Vijaya Hospital (VH), Vijaya Health Centre (VHC), Vijaya Heart Foundation (VHF) and Vijaya Eye Foundation.

About Our Group

Established in 1972, Vijaya Hospital has been providing quality medical service to the community. The trust was formed by Shri. B. Nagi Reddi, a recipient of Dada Saheb Phalke award and founder of Vijaya Vauhini Studios, one of the most reputed film studios in the country.

Our Milestone

1972
Vijaya Hospital

Vijaya Hospital was founded in the year 1972 by Shri B. Nagi Reddi with the mission that world class medical treatment should be affordable to one and all. It was the first multispecialty hospital in Chennai with aninitial bed strength of 50. It has since evolved into a 630 bedded institution with all the specialties, state of the art laboratories, diagnostic facilities, 24/7 emergency and critical care services under the banner of Vijaya Medical & Educational Trust (VMET). Today, the Trust encompasses Vijaya Hospital (VH), Vijaya Health Centre (VHC), Vijaya Heart Foundation (VHF), Vijaya Eye Foundation, Vijaya Institute of Trauma &Orthopaedics (VITO), Vijaya College of Nursing and Vijaya Educational Academy(VEA).

Maternity Department

The Maternity Department was established in 1974 under the leadership of Dr. Sathyabhama Reddy. The department has a dedicated team of doctors and staff with expertise in labour analgesia, foetal monitoring, laparoscopy, uro-gynaecology, advanced gynaec-oncological surgeries and infertility.

Department of Paediatrics

The Department of Paediatrics was established in 1974. It grew into a thriving department under Dr.Jayam and her team, with state-of the art facilities including a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a Neonatalogy Department that provided tertiary care for extremely premature and newborns needing intensive care.

1978
Department of Neurology

The Department of Neurology was established in Vijaya Hospital under the expert guidance of Dr Arjundas G and later moved to Vijaya Health Centre in 1989 as the stroke unit under his son Dr Deepak Arjundas. This unit has since grown into one of the busiest Neurology Departments in chennai catering to Stroke, Neurodegenerative disorders, seizures and movement disorders like Parkinsonism. This unit is also supported by a state of the art Neuro diagnostic centre which includes EEG, EMG, video EEG, NCT and sleep studies.

1983
Vijaya Eye Foundation

The Eye Research Foundation was set up in the year 1983 under the auspices of Dr. S. S. Badrinath, Dr. Babu Rajendran and Dr. P. Janakiraman to providestate-of-the art treatment for various eye ailments. At this centre, the first digital imaging system in India was setup in the year 1989. The Excimer Laser facility was one of the earliest of its kind in India. In the year 1997, an indo-cyanine green angiography unit was established, for the first time in Asia. This centre has won recognition for its excellent standards throughout India. The World HealthOrganization has recognized the foundation for its short-term fellowship training for doctors.

Vijaya Health Centre

Vijaya Health Centre was established in 1984, in Vijaya Gardens, as an extension of Vijaya Hospital, to cater to the growing demands for quality and affordable healthcare services. Today, this 300-bedded unit is aptly set amidst abundant greenery and fresh air for the rehabilitation of nephrology, neurology and trauma patients. As part of its holistic care, Vijaya Health Centre offers Ayurveda, Acupuncture and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy services. It also offers individual spacious cottages on campus for those requiring extended rehabilitation.

Department of Urology

The Department of Urology in Vijaya Hospital was established in the year 1987, headed by the well-renowned urologist Prof. Dr. C. Chinnaswami. The department has successfully performed various urological procedures over the past four decades. The first renal transplant was performed in the year 1985 by Prof. Dr. C. Chinnaswami, along withProf. Dr. R. Ravichandran.

CT Scan Department

The CT Scan Department at the Vijaya Health Centre was established in 1990. It was one of the earliest of its kind in Chennai.

1995
MRI Scan Department

The MRI Scan Unit at Vijaya Health Centre was established in 1995 and was the third of its kind in Chennai.

1996
Nuclear Scan Department

The Nuclear Scan Department, established in Vijaya Health Centre 25 years ago, is a pioneer in Chennai in the field of Nuclear Medicine. The latest addition to the department is the Dual Head Gamma Camera with a 4D SPECT to diagnose functional and structural problems. The VijayaNuclear Scan and Therapy Centre is one among the few centres in India that has both diagnostic and therapeutic facilities under one roof.

1996
Vijaya Heart Foundation

Keeping pace with the growing demand for specialized services, a state-of-the-art Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Centre was established by Shri B. Nagi Reddi in the year 1996 under the leadership of Dr. K.N. Reddy and his team. The Vijaya Heart Foundation continues to render high quality cardiology services at an affordable cost. In 1996, the first heart transplant in Tamilnadu was successfully performed by Dr. K.M. Cherian.

Vijaya Academics

In 1996, the foundation for academics in the form of Diplomate of National Board (DNB) was laid by many of Vijaya Hospital’s renowned consultants. To name a few, Dr. Sathyabhama Reddy, Dr. Bhaskar Rao, Dr. Jayam, Dr. C. Chinnaswami,Dr. Vishwanatha Rao, Dr. Babu Rajendran and Dr. Devi Kumari. Today, the Institution has a total of ten DNB speciality courses.

Vijaya Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics (VITO)

VITO was established in 1999 as a specialized centre for trauma and orthopaedic services. VITO has been functioning for more than two decades under the leadership of Dr. C. Rajasekhara Reddy, a senior Orthopaedic surgeon. VITO is the leading unit in Chennai for knee replacement surgeries and also specialises in Trauma, Spine, Soft Tissue surgeries and other orthopaedic ailments.

Vijaya Preventive Health Check

Vijaya Educational Academy

Vijaya Educational Academy in affiliation with The Tamil Nadu M.G.R. Medical University was established in the year 2011. It was a long cherished dream of the founder, which became a reality. The Academy was founded on the pillars of discipline, excellence and hard work to impart knowledge and empower young minds. Today, we are proud to have six Allied Health Science Courses with around 400 students.

Accredited by NABH

The Vijaya Medical & Educational Trust was accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers in the year 2011. A grand event was held on the 12th March, 2011, to celebrate this milestone. The event was graced by the Secretary General of Quality of Council of India, Dr. Girdhar Gyani and Dr.MayilvahananNatarajan, the Vice Chancellor of the TamilnaduDr. M.G.R Medical University.

Inauguration of V-Race (Vijaya Rapid Access Cardiac Evaluation)

Vijaya initiated V-RACE, the 24/7 chest pain service, in 2012. V-RACE was established with the intent to provide urgent treatment to cardiac emergency patientssuch as rapid access to the patient’s residence, speedy transport to the hospital and emergency optimal treatment including interventional procedures by senior cardiologists.

Vijaya Breast Clinic

The Vijaya Breast Clinic is a dedicated breast clinic that offers diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for breast-related problems such as Conventional X-Ray Mammography, Digital Infrared Thermal Mammography and Sono Mammography.

Vijaya Mothers’ Milk Bank

Vijaya’s Mothers’ Milk Bank, the first private milk bank in Chennai, was established in the year 2014. The milk bank collects and pasteurizes mother’s milk using state-of-the-art equipment, which is then stored for later use. This milk is then provided to pre-term and sick infants in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. More than 1000 babies have benefitted through this facility.

Accredited by NABL

The Vijaya Hospital Laboratory was accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) in 2015.

NRIMET

The NagiReddi Institute of Medical Education & Training was established to support and promote medical education. The Institute conducts continuous medical and nursing training programmes and also promotes clinical research.

Neuro Cath Lab (EVANS)

This state-of-the-art centre specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for neurological and vascular disorders.

2018
Recognized by CAHO

Vijaya Medical & Educational Trust was recognized as a “Centre for Quality Promotion” by CAHO (Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations). The Trust remains actively involved in organizing training and education programs for hospitals across the country to help them in their journey towards quality, accreditation and patient safety.

Commemorative Postage Stamp (Biography Titled “The Legend”)

On 23rd February 2018, the Vijaya Medical & Educational Trust held a grand function in Chennai on the occasion of unveiling of the Commemorative Postage Stamp on Shri B. Nagi Reddi, its Founder. The release of the stamp was done in the august presence of the Chief Guest Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, the then Hon’ble Vice President of India, and the Guest of Honour Thiru. Banwarilal Purohit, the then Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu. The programme was graced by many senior members of the film fraternity and healthcare industry. On this special occasion, the biography of the Founder Shri B. Nagi Reddi titled The Legend, was released

Vijaya College of Nursing

In 2020, the Vijaya College of Nursing was started with an intake of 100 Students. The college is recognized by the State Nursing Council.

Inauguration of Oxygen PSA Plant & Covid Intensive Care Unit

On 10th Sep 2021, the then Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu Thiru. Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated two PSA oxygen plants (Pressure Swing Adsorption oxygen plants) and an exclusive COVID intensive care unit at Vijaya Health Centre. Vijaya Medical & Educational Trust commissioned these facilities through the funding by Nokia & LEHS–WISH Foundation under their CSR initiative.
